Abstract

Aurangzeb was a great ruler, not only because he ruled the whole state, but also because he possessed a prominent status in terms of morals, habits, governmental responsibility and public upbringing. There was no restriction on the Hindus, Christians and Sikhs from performing their religious rites in Hindustan. Even though alcohol was forbidden only to Muslims and others had the freedom to drink. The Churches of Christians were in the Capital and they performed religious duties without interruption. Whatever was done by the Hindus in their temples, there was no absolute interference with their superstitions and worship. Although Aurangzeb gave great importance to his religion, it does not mean that he was prejudiced by religions other than Islam. It tried to erase only the Hindu rituals that were causing disruption to society. As was the attitude adopted in the Hindustan to prevent Sati rituals. Aurangzeb also banned the construction of new temples, but he did not ban renovation of old temples. Banning the construction of new temples is not a religious prejudice because if it were, it would not approve the financing of the old temples. It was only a step to save the royal treasury from further burdens. During the reign of Aurangzeb, many Hindu were appointed on important positions. Although he re-imposed Jizya on Hindus, but many more taxes were abolished below.
