Abstract

This research presents a literary comparison between two eminent poets: Ḥassān of the Arabs, Ḥassān ibn Thābit, and Ḥassān of India, Ghulām ʿAlī Āzād al-Bilgrāmī, focusing on their Prophetic panegyric (Madīḥ al-Nabawī). The former was the Poet of the Messenger ﷺ in the early period of Islam, while the latter was a distinguished Islamic poet of the Indian subcontinent in the later centuries. Both poets expressed sincere faith and spiritual elevation in their praise of the Prophet ﷺ. Ḥassān ibn Thābit’s poetry served as a powerful voice of defense for the Noble Messenger ﷺ and his true religion, responding to the satirical attacks of the polytheists during the formative years of Islam. In contrast, the poetry of Āzād al-Bilgrāmī stands as a translation of profound and genuine love in the later Islamic era, reflecting deep devotion and reverence for the Prophet ﷺ.
